Computer Tips - How can I make sure a package I need is not erased from my system?

Date: 2012nov15 OS: Linux Distro: RedHat/Fedora/CentOS Keywords: protect, precious, rpm, yum Q. How can I make sure a package I need is not erased from my system? A. Put an entry in /etc/yum/protected.d/ For example, on my system I made a file called /etc/yum/protected.d/mail.conf which contains:
postfix dovecat cyrus-sasl spamassassin
(No tabs or spaces) I use all those packages to run mail on my box. And now they won't be deleted by accident. You can pick any name for your file /etc/yum/protect.d as long as it ends in .conf Even with dnf the folder name has not changed.
