Date: 2007oct29, 2012dec8 OS: Linux Distro: RedHat/Fedora/CentOS Q. Why isn't vi doing those advanced vim functions? A. Seems that vi is from the vim-minimal package. Its doesn't do the fancy stuff. I suggest removing this package:

rpm -e --nodeps vim-minimal

That removes vi -- you can still use vim To save typing make a symbolic link.

cd /usr/bin ln -s vim vi
